About PracticeLookML: The Story of a Developer's Dilemma
Have you ever been caught in the classic "chicken and egg" scenario? You need experience to get a job, but you need a job to get experience. This was the exact predicament faced by our founder, Aman Anand.
The LookML Challenge
Aman was passionate about data and analytics, and he set his sights on mastering LookML, the powerful data modeling language from Google. But he soon hit a wall. LookML is a proprietary technology, tightly integrated with Google's Looker platform. Unlike other languages that have countless open-source projects and sandboxes for practice, LookML was a closed garden.
How could he practice his skills? How could he build a portfolio to showcase his abilities to potential employers? The answer was, he couldn't.
The Birth of PracticeLookML
Frustrated but not defeated, Aman decided to build the solution he couldn't find. He envisioned a platform where aspiring data professionals could learn and practice LookML in a real-world environment, without needing access to a corporate Looker instance.
And so, PracticeLookML was born.
